La Union is a bright and friendly place, situated on the southern coast of Spain in the Murcia region on the Costa Cálida, seven kilometres from Cartagena and just 13 kilometres from the nearest airport. The town is rich in history and has been witness to many exciting eras, primarily due to the wealth which was to be found in its extensive precious and semi-precious mineral mines.
Today, La Union has managed to hold a safe and sound environment, undamaged by its history. The town has a good variety of shops and restaurants but even so, tourism is not yet a full-blown industry here, and it may still be considered as a quieter holiday resort compared to La Union's neighbouring towns.
Come to this beautiful part of Spain and enjoy the typical healthy tropical weather of a friendly Costa Calida town. For people who are looking for more beach and sports action, La Union is expediently just a short drive from the larger La Manga resorts, and the series of glorious Cartagena beaches. The month of August is a recommended time to visit La Union. It is during this season that the whole town celebrates the Flamenco Festival and the Mining Festival with much fervour.
